Hi.
I had to install AVG, and a few other safe guards to protect my system. The bulletin board doors that I had installed on my system were packed full of trojans, and with among other things, so when I hooked up with the highspeed, all hell broke loose. It took hours to clean the system, but now everything is clean, workinh, and looking good.
Anyway, my question is, I have added SOW to the AVG ignore list (directories & dll's), but I have noticed a slow down while playing the game, is there a way to disable avg (no option is listed to exit the program)?
I have tried disabling it using the task manager, and disabling through the admin services...nothing helps with this.
I really don't want to uninstall AVG, but if I have too I will.
Anyway, any help will be great!
later guys!

That's one of the reasons why I don't usually run resident virus scanners.. They take up way too many resources. Now I'm not saying everyone should go and uninstall their virus scanners because they do keep your system protected of course, but there are other options such as on demand scanners like Malwarebytes. I just run a scan once a week or so to remove any threats. And I'm also very careful which websites I go to.
Yeah, AVG is a great virus scanner but it's also one of the many that make it near impossible to completely stop it from running. You can disable the virus scanner in the options, but I think it still leaves a process or two running. The only way to completely disable everything AVG is to go into MSCONFIG and disable the startup and services.Hi.

Hi little Powell.
Thanks. yeah, there is no way to stop it from loading except uninstalling, which I don't think I want to do.

Re: AVG?
I think just turning off the Residential Shield will fix your prob. I run AVG, and I keep the shield off, it definitely slows stuff down. To feel safe, just turn it on when you surf.

I regret I am unable to help with this problem.
The thread has triggered a virus scanning issue I have. Rather than highjack, perhaps anyone interested in this topic could join me here:
