Changing Generals and troop types

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Changing Generals and troop types

Post by Jack ONeill »

Modders,

Is anyone else slightly tired of having R. E. Lee commanding everything on the Confederate side?

I can only run minimum uniform settings on my rig. In TC2M it was relatively easy to switch troop types and Generals around to have a different one, (ones), within the minimum settings. I have looked at the unit/model and unit/global files. They seem similar to TC2M. Am I right here? If so, which ones are which? At this point I'd just like to trade the minimum Rebel General for the next one up the Res ladder, as it were.
I'll mess with the troop types later. I think you hit a good one with the lowest Res Rebel uniforms.
Thanks.

All,

Have tried changing the CSA General types in units/global and units/model. No luck. Tried them each and together. Am going to surmise the coding reads the DDS files as the primary instruction rather than the other two.

Here's the other question then - Can I assume CSA General Lee is General 01-1? If so, which CSA General is the generic CSA General on the medium/low-res setting?
WOuld it change the General if I renamed the DDS files? I actually think not, but I'm willing to try.

Also, if it CAN'T be done, I can live w/ "Marse Robert" as defacto Cmdr of everything.

Jack,
I laid out the full sequence of how things progress from the dds file to on-screen in the full mod manual. I suggest that you read through that and see if this gives you the information you need.

Hey, I’m not completely sure what you are asking here, also, I’m not running the minimum uniform settings!

But, if I were going to change the General Lee graphic – into a Standard General graphic – there is only one edit that would have to be made.

Open the unitglobal file that you have placed into the Mods \ Scenarios \ Logistics folder - and Locate the line that starts with UGLB_CSA_Inf_Cdr_Army – under the G Column change the

USPR_CSA_Cdr_01
To
USPR_CSA_Cdr_02

If this is not what you are asking…explain again!

Brother,

Great to hear from you. Will we be seeing you on the MP Battlefield soon?
I think I made that change to no avail but I will look into it again. Perhaps I changed the wrong line.

Jim,

Of course, it would help if I could find the Full Mod Manual. laugh: I assumed it would be in the SDK section. I don't see it anywhere in the Program Files for the game.

Download and install the new SDK and you'll find the new manual in Work\SDK

Yes, I did download it before but forgot to check which partition side to send it to. The new SDK went to the wrong side the first time. Got it now.
