Artillery in courier only battles
Re:Artillery in courier only battles
Good god marching through georgia, if the take command flag is lit up I have to conclude that the unit is TCed right? Well it is lit up. I don't know what else to say. I am not ignorant of the game indicators. I have played TC2M for years and am fully aware of the take command function in both games. I am telling you, no never mind I'm not telling you anything anymore. I've told you what is happening in about 3 posts and you are ignoring the data so maybe someone else can help me on this. Thanks for your time and trouble. Bye.

Setup a save game with the battery selected. Explain in as much detail as possible what the issue is and email to sowsupport at scourgeofwar dot comGood god marching through georgia, if the take command flag is lit up I have to conclude that the unit is TCed right? The fallout from this feature is that any units you have TCed will only respond to orders conveyed within shouting distance.
I don't know why I bothered to post that, you're clearly a contemptible **** who doesn't deserve any of the help that has been offered in this thread.
I believe this is a game feature when playing using couriers. At a distance greater than shouting distance all of your orders will be relayed via courier. When within shouting distance, well, you're within shouting distance so couriers are eschewed. Simply put, the game recognises that at that distance you wouldn't be using a courier to convey your order, you would be ordering the unit yourself. The battery executes my orders when I have taken command and detached them only if I am within shouting distance. Do you get it now? If I move Doubleday 100 yards away they ignore the command, if I move him within 20 yards they obey. Now my original question: Is this by design or is it a bug?

Re:Artillery in courier only battles
I have had this happen to me. I have to unTC them to get them to follow orders. Then when I get them where I want them then I TC them again. Sometimes I have to send the orders and when they have received them are moving I have to TC them then, so they don't stop. It is a bit of a pain.

Monty, I'm surprised at you. I only asked the question numerous times, only to be stonewalled. When I finally decided to give up on marching through georgia out of frustration, you escalate the thread to name calling. Tsk Tsk. I won't be playing any MP games with a hot head such as you.
So in reality would Captain James A. Hall, the battery commander, have refused imperative movement orders sent by courier from Doubleday? I doubt it. And as we see in an earlier post, Little Powell seems to think it deserves looking at in detail, as he asked me to send a saved game in. Of course I'll be the first to admit I don't know what is going on, but it looks like most of the rest of you think you do but you really don't. All you would have had to do was speak honestly and say,"Hmmm, I don't know what to think about that, maybe you should contact admin", but instead you throw guesses at my post to see if any of them will stick, then call me "a contemptable ****" when none of your suggestions fix the problem. And NY Cavalry has had the same frustrating problem so I'm not the only one. In ending, I didn't come here to make enemies, just to get answers.

Re:Artillery in courier only battles
We all have this "problem". I've heard that it is by design, so from a long distance if playing by courier you have to either use the AI, or have the unit do nothing.
You are right that if you TC a unit when playing by courier, the unit will only follow orders when you are within shouting distance, and as soon as you leave shouting distance, if you send a courier the courier will arrive, you will get the message, and the unit will do nothing.
I don't like it, but I don't play by courier so it isn't a problem for me.
Hope that helps.

Thank you so much Garnier! You are the only one after 2 days of frustration to answer my post in an intelligent, concise and professional manner. In the future I will PM you, if that is OK, for information as you seem to be a knowledgable and level headed source. Once again thank you for your time and interest in helping me out.

I would suggest still sending in that saved game. They go right to the developers and if they agree that it's a bug, then it's likely we'll get a fix in for it.Thank you so much Garnier! Re:Artillery in courier only battles
I did send it in LP, and I got a right snappy reply from the powers that be, and they said it is not a bug but by design, and that's the end of this conundrum! In closing, all of you who dumped my karma in this thread need to go take a good long look in the mirror and think about how you put your 2 cents in when it really was just a plugged nickel you put up.
