Hi all I played tc back in the day and just bought this. im a little rusty however
Is their one battle thats smaller than the others that I can start off on to get back up to speed?

When you go to the Scenario Screen the battles go consecutively from GB01 to GB20. Click on the flags to get the info you need, hope that helps you.

And after you've done the tutorials, it's good to get familiar with battle by playing Sandbox. Start out on Brigade Size, line of sight. Once you've got that mastered and can defeat the enemy every time, move to division etc.
