These sort of tables have been used by miniature players for decades. ;)

Some results of artillery effectiveness:
Sandbox, division level
Union side
10 guns
Normal level
attack mission
Kansas Sandbox Map

The guns were deployed on a small hill some 250 yards behind Union lines. At no time was the range less than 300 yards. After the Rebs departed the objective, the range was often 500 to 600 yards. A lot of my artillery fires were directed toward enemy artillery assets. I left target selection to the AI.

By the time the 58 minute limit was up for holding the objective, the 10 guns had produced (in round numbers, 400 of 900 casualties). During the fight, I replenished 2 or 3 times so a fair amount of ammo was consumed.

This was (for me), a tough fight which I would not have won without the artillery. The artillery obviously produced morale problems for the enemy since after the Rebels were ousted, I set the stance to "Hold" for all of my Yanks. I could see Rebel units attempting to reform while being shelled and Rebel units laying down. They never did muster an appreciable attack while the clock was running down.

The artillery routine currently calculates hit probabilities using different parameters for infantry, artillery, and cavalry.

I know Jim but I was thinking that with that extra table in use, we could target the gun for disabling in case of direct hit with solid or shell and at the same type, insert generals, couriers and any other unit type that can possibly be built by the modders when the time comes... hit by any unit, not just by artillery.
