I bought the game, but I'm confused !

Post by Rebel M »

Hey team, I finally got around buying the game, and had a brief look at it this morning.
I am confused about the scenarios. They seem very few to me, but I do remember reading something on the forums about more scenarios being unlocked as you progress?

I didnt have much time to play this morning, so I never got around to finish a scenario.

Would you mind clearing this up a bit?

Some kind of scenario tree would be nice, so you can see which scenario leads to another. Also, what are the requirements of unlocking the next scenario? And will the difficulty setting matter?

Other than that, I'm looking forward to a great game. The scenario I tried this morning was called "A Storm of Lead and Steel" or something, and I enjoyed it immensly.

I did play TCM1 & 2 a bit, and this game seems already a clear step in the right direction from that - better graphics, more fluid gameplay, better AI - I can tell all this already from the little bit I played, so I'm sure I will have a great game.

GREAT JOB GUYS!

Thank you for the kind words and welcome to the community. :)

There are 20 single player scenario's. Yes not as many as TC2M, but trust me factoring in the difficulty of some of them, and the several variants for each one, there's plenty of game playing time in there.

I don't have the list in front of me, but many of the scenario's are carryover (meaning you have to beat one to move on to the next). Hopefully one of the other team members can chime in to list exactly which one's are.

Hi Rebel M

I think it's fair to say every one of these games have seemed a little bit bleak and restricted at the start.

You say you have played a little on TCBR and TC2M but did you play them, particularly TC2M, toward the end when the enthusiastic band of modders and "adders-on" had set up a plethora of additional battles, battlefields, OOB's and even different wars .... all based upon the brilliant original concept.

That is where you get your money's worth with one of Norb's creations. It is powerful but necessarily simple at first but over a few years will expand into something marvellous to behold. Sort of Butterfy syndrome. The secret is in the ability of the game to accept mods and the generosity of Norb to write it that way for all of us.

The forum is also the best I have ever come across.

Hi and welcome!

While there is no scenario tree, if you try to play a scenario that is dependent on a previous one you will get a screen telling you which one you need to play. For example, if you click on "Brickyard" it will tell you that you need to play "The bullet is not molded. . ." first. Generally, the order is pretty logical. If the forces you command for a particular scenario were engaged in an earlier phase of the battle, you need to play the previous scenario (because attrition is factored in to later scenarios). The first day scenarios can all be played pretty much straight off the bat. But you can also drop in and play some scenarios on day two and three where those forces historically weren't engaged in the previous days of the battle. (For a real fun time, try "Greene Alone" for example).

But I'd underscore what Little Powell said. Many of the bigger scenarios have numerous variants. The Jackson scenario, for example, seems to have quite a few. And because the AI in general is so good it is rare to have a battle that plays out exactly the same way even in a scenario with few variants. Trust me, this game will dispose of large chunks of your leisure time.

And of course the Sandbox (randomly generated scenarios) gives you unlimited playability.
