Regiment size in game?
Regiment size in game?
Does anyone know what the ratio of soldiers displayed on screen in a regiment is compared to the unit's "strength" number?
It's obvious that larger regiments, are, larger. But it doesn't appear to be quite a 1 to 1 ratio. Is it 1.5 to 1 or 2 to 1?
I guess I could get a screen shot and count, but was wondering if anyone knew already.
thx,
Boyd (aka Gen Law)

I believe it is 1 to 4, for it was discussed sometime before the game was released.

1:4 I believe, with a max of 100 sprites in a reg.

1:4
Also, this game engine supports other ratios. Once the SDK and other files are made available, these options will be available. If not immediately, the near future, I'm also anxious to start testing this feature. :cheer:

Woah, didn't know about that last part. So a regiment of 800 men will look the same as a regiment of 400.1:4 I believe, with a max of 100 sprites in a reg.
Yes, once we're able to mod and make maps hopefully we can cut this down and have TC2M style 10:1 ratio, to have bigger battles. It's rather disappointing that the maps in this game have to be so much smaller than TC2M's.Also, this game engine supports other ratios. The GB maps are actually larger than TC2M. The GB maps are 2.48 miles/side where the TC2M maps are 2.33 miles/side. The GB maps are about as large as current systems can handle with the high degree of historical detail that we have.Yes, once we're able to mod and make maps hopefully we can cut this down and have TC2M style 10:1 ratio, to have bigger battles. Are they really, then I take that back. I thought they were the same size based on the grayscale images. So the grayscale dots must cover more area now, that might explain the road zigzag people experience.

Oh, that is very exciting. I wonder if a 1:1 ratio will be available for a smaller scenario like Heth's division vs the Union cav/inf on the first day? It would be very interesting to see what a full scale engagement looked like. Are individual soldiers to scale with the landscape? That's one thing I have a hard time imagining when visiting Gettysburg...is what did it really look like with all those men in combat.1:4

The scale of the maps are on par with the scale of the troops and numbers. In other words for example, a SOWGB regiment lined up at the southeastern wall of the Triangular field, takes up about the same amount of space as a full regiment would have taken on the real battlefield. If the sprite ratio is increased to 1:1, then the maps would have to be enlarged to 1:1 scale. So if someone was going to do a 1:1 troop mod, they would really need to have another 1:1 map to go along with it. They could create a portion of the field and make it 1:1.RebBugler wrote:Oh, that is very exciting.
