Sandbox "holding objective" times much too brief

Post by pcelt »

I have just fought a Sandbox Engagement (Hunt them down) with Objective and this has reinforced my view that times allocated especially in Engagement with Objective type battles
is much too brief. Where one side starts v.close to the target and the other a v.long road march from the other end of the map then a "Tlme to hold"of 12 minutes or so is far too short for the distant force to road march, deploy and contest the target at all.And the outcome can easily be --a time spent road marching, then deploying and then finding before your attack can even start that the defender has satisfied the "time occupied " criteria and can march away---a very irritating and demotivating experience--and indeed a waste of time with gameplay.
There is no problem with the forces starting at different distances--but the time to hold criteria must be much more substantial.
Could you please consider increasing these time demands substantially.

NB I have just realised that I am even more confused than I thought----just been reminded that in Sandbox games we set our own time limits. For all these battles I have set a hold target time limit of 60 minutes but in every battle I fight the times registered under the map objective symbol and in the "Battle Info" section on the tool bar are of these very brief times-- 10 or 12 mins etc. Why is my selected time not portrayed and applied.
Can anyone comment from their own experience re setting and having displayed in game the time limit they have set themself.

NB2 Further tested this and it looks as though your selected time does trigger the "battle-over " but I still dont understand why these brief "Hold Times" are still portrayed and your selected time limit is not portrayed or counted down in game.

Sorry for all this escalating confusion ---but still hope someone can clarify this whole puzzle for me........please
Thanks

The time limit that you set is the battle length, not the hold time of the objective.

There are a lot of behind the scenes calculations that can be brought to the front on this screen. It would be good to really expose everything to the player. First fill it with our proposed values, but then let you change it.

Also....

If you want to do a little more work. The sandbox scenario is written to the work/scenarios folder. You could copy that into a mod folder and change it however you want.
