The maps

Post by Amish John »

So far I've seen very few posts addressing any map issues. I see this as a big compliment to the NSD team members who worked on the maps. As the old saying goes, "Do something right and no one remembers, do something wrong and no one forgets". Sometimes I'm so busy admiring the scenery and comparing it in my mind to the real battlefield I forget to "take care of my boys" who are trying to win a battle. Often I'll just let them on their own and go sightseeing (with a resulting defeat, of course). Taking into account the necessary restrictions of scale, detail, and manpower, I think the map makers deserve a bit round of applause.

Hell yes!!! The maps are fantastic (and I STILL only have the Demo - LOL.) My only question is can we put the place names on the mini-maps? I became so used to looking at other Gettysburg maps with the troops positions displayed on them, I can't figure out where my men are, area-wise, without them. It's not vital, but would be nice.

Agree with everything you say, AJ. Would have been very difficult to include every trail and pathway that was present at the time. Fine job.

Has anyone "published" a copy of that map that is being used? Would be nice to have a hard copy in "hand" for reference, especially when using the couriers.

Yeah, the first time I played this game, I spent several minutes just browsing around the map with my jaw dropped.... :)

About a published copy of the map, see this thread: http://www.norbsoftdev.com/index.php?op ... 4811#14867

Not difficult. Irfanview will open the minimap dds files and save them as jpg, bmp, etc., whatever you need to print them out.

Think I would prefer the game map...but what is "Irfanview" and where do I find it. (Would really be nice is someone would place a copy on this forum as they did for the keyboard...HINT, HINT!)

Thanks, Georgia! Will download and see what happens.

(Had meant to ask: Would really be nice if someone would place a MAP copy on this forum as they did for the keyboard...HINT, HINT!) :woohoo:
