Looking for help from someone who understands computers and McAfee better than I do.

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

Looking for help from someone who understands computers and McAfee better than I do.

Post by Greek »

Hi All!

Well, I just gotta' ask if there may be anyone out there that can advise me how to make scpwn32.dll an exception to my McAfee virus checking. I know how to make an *.exe program and exception to the firewall, and do it frequently, but after playing around for quite a bit, and trying to get assistance from McAfee's online help database, I cannot find a solution for this. Probably right in front of me, but I can't get it.

I find I have to reload the game frequently, or else it tells me it is not activated, and it appears to be happening after a scan is run by McAfee. Norb believes the scan is deactivating my game by identifying this *.dll as a virus.

Anyone out there that can help?

Thanks

Bill

I wish that I had McAfee. Based on what you write, I think that the problem is exactly as you describe. So I'll google for you, as it could also help others..........googling :)........

Found this link http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/150 it shows how to add another program as an exception, but it should be easy to use the same info to add ours. Let me know if you have any success.

Yes, I did what you suggested and looked into this spicework site yesterday. Took note that if I joined it, of course I'd have to give up my email address. The reason it is free, cause it's an add generating site, meaning I would open myself up to be getting bombed with adds all the time. To be an add free member would cost $240.00 a year, times 2 yr. comes out to $480.00. A headache I don't need deleting spam and an exspense I don't want to play the game. There is two years left on my McAfee subscription which costs me zip.

I just meant that it had instructions on how to add exceptions, not suggesting you join. I didn't know that was something that was an option. Sorry that I was not clear about that.

I have since been told that the directions at this link do not apply to the current version of McAfee. I just can't believe that do not have a simple interface to add exceptions. It's not just us, I googled about this false positive and it's doing it to a lot of programs. They really need to get their act together and stop messing up people's apps.

I'll look into Avast or AVg and some of the other suggestions that have been mentioned, keep in mind what I and others have to examine is, What comes with "free".

Thanks, BOSTON :)

Scanners for all services: email, IM, network shield, outlook/ecxchange, p2p, web shield, standad shield. One prog = all protection and it's all entirely free. I mean, it's just the best free AV around unless, as I said, you want even more serious stuff like NOD32 or Kaspersky.

I've submitted the dll to all the online sites that I've found and everyone one of them comes back saying it's not a virus. McAfee just has issues, so did AVG, but they fixed them.
