I think this is a bug. I saw it once myself in the Buford scenario where the score suddenly starts counting up at an enormous speed. When I noticed it, I immediately disengaged and rode out the scenario. I would have quit, but before the error I had already gotten about 7500 points. But the official tally came out as 35,000+ (see screenshot). I wish I could edit the score to reflect my actually tally. But alas, 35,000 is now etched in stone.

Edit:Says that my image exceeds the 800 pixel limit or something. I'm not savvy as far as image editing goes. What do I do?

Sorry. I suffer from a serious case of typosis. Don't worry, it's not contagious :)

I think we've finally tracked down this bug. Jolly sent me an excellent save that shows an enemy commander getting killed off every second for no apparent reason. This awards points every time he dies. The players score was up to over 50k!

Man, I hope this is it.. I've been hunting this one for a while now. :)

Maybe you shouldn't fix this bug. It will make it easy to model the battle of Franklin.

I don't know if this is the same bug, because this time i attacked the flank of a union cavalry regiment and i could only see the guideon bearer. After some seconds the bearer stands up and the score jumped high.No enemy commander in sight.
Send you an email with the save file.

Yup that commander must have been mind . . . when playing, I feel that the game doesn't actually begin until my commander dies . . . at least once! hehe
