I have just played a couple of small brigade size "Attack" battles in Sandbox. What happened in both was that the corps and div commanders were present at the battle. The problem is that the Div commander each time rode to the target area as well and because I was manoevering my brigade to find different lines of attack etc he invariably reached the target first way before my brigade units. The issue here apart from the lack of reality about it is that his presence (Game Level B Normal) revealed all the enemy defensive units and positions--which I should not have been able to see at that stage from mine or my troops position. Also of course even if he were killed by the defenders a new replacement General was spawned and so the visibility of the enemy remained.
If I am right this behaviour which unrealistically reveals defensive units and positions is really a game breaker as you no longer have to try and locate the enemy situation with your own units and manoeuvres --a major and exciting element in normal attack.
NB It probably also explains why earlier when I was defending, so many officers from the attacking side just rode through my lines and were killed --probably spawned from high ranking generals accompanying the attacking brigade or division.
NB2 In the last game I checked through the final statistics and found that General Birney (one of my accompanying Generals) had been killed as well as 21 of his replacements before the brigade arrived and battle was joined ----this sort of result can only weaken immersiveness in the game and thats a shame and should be easily eliminated.
I would hope that the code would either not cause higher ranking Generals to accompany the attack at all --or if they do to make sure that they follow and stay well behind the attacking brigade or division throughout.
Any other sandbox experiences of this type ?

Re: Small but game spoiling bug in sandbox ??
Just want to say thank you for the saved games. I just looked at them and I see what it is. I cannot believe that we missed this! We spent a ton of time making sure our commanders didn't do suicide runs and we were pretty happy with it. Problem is that we never tested on a road march or any other situation where the guy was "pathing". So although he got scared, and set a new destination, he never removed his path, so he kept heading in the same direction. Ahhh!
Fixed now, thank you!

I'll second Norb: thanks for the heads-up, pcelt. We thought we had squashed that bug in testing. Sounds like Norb got it for good this time.
Re: Small but game spoiling bug in sandbox ??
Thanks very much guys--which patch will this appear in?
Re: Small but game spoiling bug in sandbox ??
The next one, probably another beta.
