Cant play the game = me sad
Hey guys been a silent member of the community for the past 5 years dating to TC2M, so hopefully you guys will be able to help me out. heres a breakdown of my problem
when i click the icon to start the game the menu loads up perfectly fine with every path (singleplayer, options, Multi, etc...) working perfectly fine. the problem arises when i am prompted to hit the space bar to begin. once i do that the game freezes up for a second then windows goes to the blue screen of death. (yes i am that close yet so far away). here are my specs as far as i know how to look up:
Dell latitude D830
Intel Core 2 duo CPU
T7500 @ 2.20 GHz
2.9GHz, 1.99 Gb Ram
running windows xp professional
im no tech guy so if there is any other info yall need to help me out just let me know and id be happy to oblige, yet would probably need some help knowing where to look. thanks again and hope to be defeating the dastardly yanks soon.

Isn't that a laptop? It may be that the video card cannot support the game.
Re: Cant play the game = me sad
You'll have to go and look in the windows log for the reason for your BSOD (blue screen of death!) there can be any reason, including faulty hardware, overheating... any reason really, hundreds of them.
Check Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer and the log will tell you WHY it happened so you can take countermeasures.

Re: Cant play the game = me sad
It should be a laptop with an Intel GMA X3100 graphic chip. This chip uses max. 256MB shared memory, that's why you can't run the game.

so let me get this straight. my computer can run games such as Medieval total War, Empire total War, and call of duty and i cant play SoW. Im probably not getting yall all the info you need to help me out. Im sorry im so computer illiterate and it takes me so long to figure out this stuff but between my masters thesis and practice i havent had a lot of time to get on here. but heres the info on my graphics card
Device Description Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
Adapter String Mobile Intel(R) GMA X3100
BIOS String Intel Video BIOS
Chip Type Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
DAC Type Internal
Installed Drivers igxprd32 (6.14.10.4831)
Memory Size 384 MB
is there really no other option than to upgrade cards? Because by god for the glory of Virginia i may have to do that to defeat the Yankee aggressor!

Tag it:I have had many requests to define our minimum specs for SOWGB. Although we do not have a final platform, we can print out what we are running and what we think they will be:
Proposed Recommended:
1. DirectX 9c
2. Intel Core2 Duo
3. 2Gb RAM
4. 1Gb Harddrive space
5. 256Mb Video Card with DirectX 9 support
6. Video card should NOT be on board, but should be seperate, no shared memory
7. Some sort of sound
8. Monitor, keyboard, and mouse
9. XP or Vista or Win7
10. Internet connection for activation/deactivation/net play
We do plan on having a lot of options to lower these specs to something much less, but we have not done our min testing so we're not sure what they will be yet. Basically by hiding the buildings and terrain sprites, you can run much faster or on lower end systems. It's not nearly as pretty, but it will run. We still have some stuff to try out to make this even better and we'll change this spec as we can.
The above system has been out for over a couple of years now, so we don't feel that it's too high to ask.

You can't upgrade the D830's graphic card.
Re: Cant play the game = me sad
We are a pretty small company, so we do not have the resources those other games have to make sure everything works. That's one of the reasons we release the demo. So that everyone has a chance to run the game on their computer before they buy. The graphics engine that we use, PowerRender, has always had issues running on these types of video cards. There are other games that have issues with this setup, it is not exclusive to us, but I do admit that with our design we are very susceptible to it.

Re: Cant play the game = me sad
And also related to the demo i suppose it was my fault considering i bought before i tried but considering how many years i enjoyed TC2M i just figured it would work. one more example of when my excitement clouded my judgment. This game was like CMP 3.0, Shiloh, and the Antietam Mod for that previous game all rolled into one and i just got ahead of myself. thanks for the help anyways.
