Net score calculation. Is there a bug. ?

Game won't run. Keeps crashing. Hopefully we won't get any posts here, but if we do, we'll try to help you out. You can also post any bugs that you find here. IMPORTANT: Don't post mod related problems here!

Net score calculation. Is there a bug. ?

Post by Ingles of the 57th »

This could have gone in the “To the Round Tops” thread but that seemed to be getting a bit cluttered so I have started a new one.

In three scenarios (09,10,12) I have noticed what I can only conclude is an error in calculating the final score.

I tested this by switching to the “untrained” skill setting.

I got the objectives early in each scenario, held them for almost the full time and wiped out every enemy in sight with a kill rate of about ten to one.

Each time the basic “gross” score was well over the “major victory” score but I found that this was being reduced by almost 50% in the final "net score"calculation presumably for “enemy achievements”

But the enemy achievements in these cases were in fact almost nothing, no objectives, no routings, no kill superiority. I fail to see how the large deductions observed and applied could have come about except by some error in the algorithm.

I saw no sign of the "dead officer" cascade syndrome that can sometimes inflate scores of one side or the other remarkably.

The score is adjusted to your difficulty level.

That's news to me, Norb ? You actually subtract from (and presumably add to) the achieved score based upon the difficulty level. I don't like that one bit.

Doesn't that defeat the whole object of having difficulty levels. I thought they only affected morale, size and aggressiveness of opposing forces and thus made it easier or more difficult to win points. But you move the goalposts as well !

So, if a beginner chooses an easy level to learn the game, he or she immediately gets handicapped for using it. This, coupled with some of the high scenario scores required in the first place, is enough to have the poor fellow chuck the game straight into the bin after a few tries.

I only chose the lowest level in this instance to ensure winning the scenario with a high enough score to able to check out my suspicions on the algorithm.

Can you inform us what the percentage adjustments are ? I can't recall this mentioned in the manual at all but I will have another look.

Best regards

I will have to look up the numbers, but this is something that I have always done. Obviously it is much easier to win on the lower levels, so in order to get a picture of exactly how you are doing, the final grade is weighted to the difficulty that you have played on.
