Will there ever be a built in editor?

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

Hi.

I am wondering if at any time it was considered to have a built in editor for the game.

For instance, in my opinion, the best in-game editor was for "Operation Flashpoint".

For those who do own this excellent fps will no doubt remember how easy it was to create a scenario.

At first when I read about the sandbox mode, I was thinking COOL, maybe I can edit the game, create my own scenario's, setup the game pieces, and off you go.

I'm not a programmer, and when I mean a programmer, anything other than a graphical interface for scenario design is so far beyond me. I was thinking more along the lines of having the ability to start the game, load a map, and place the units where I wanted them, place a few random/non-random locations, write a background story (notepad would be fine for that)press save, play it, and if I enjoyed it, export it, and upload it.

Just a wondering if this will ever be considered?

Cheers...

It is considered and I did write something like that for previous games I've worked on. We would all like something better for sandbox. Even scenario design would be easier that way.

I'm trying to think how hard it would be to do something simple. We have the modes already, but you have to edit the ini file and it's a pain. We can already dump out an OOB. I think I could do one without too much pain that just created the initial OOB, but that would be a huge starting point.

Hi Norb.

Good to hear. I was wondering if a whole new interface had to be written.

Cheers...
