I've been following the progress of SOW for what seems like forever. I've looked forward to the moment of release, so I can fight for bandwidth to download the game the moment it's available. In my sad, pathetic, little life this is one bright spot that I have madly craved with the patience of Job.

With only two to three weeks until release....I was laid off today. The first time that has ever happened to me.

Life can be so cruel sometimes.

Keep your head up and don't let negative feelings pull down. You will get through this.

Thanks guys...the words of encouragement do help.

I spent last night putting together a resume, cover letter, salary history....you name it. It's a helluva lot work getting put out on the street :blink:

Like I said, this is the first time that this has happened to me. I'm still in shock, but focusing my efforts forward. I really was looking forward to the game, but (like Norb said)I'm probably going to have very little time for it now. Anyhow, it only takes a few minutes a day to hit the forums, so I will probably stop in every day to see how you guys are doing.

Norb - good luck with the game. It looks like you've done a remarkable job bringing those three days in July to life.

Couple of ways you can handle this.

1) Treat this as a minor set back, the kind of thing that happens when the rebs pin you all the way back to your last defensive position, you've kept something in reserve, you wait your time and the you hit them with everything you've got, First thing in the morning get out there and hit back.

2) Wherever you are go out an throw your last $ or £'s at a bunch of lottery tickets....Think lucky and you'll be lucky.......... B) Never worked for me but you never know.

Just to keep your hopes up with a success story - a very good friend of mine was laid off, competed against hundreds of other people that were laid off with him for the same job, and now produces a new rubber protective coating for Humvees.

All in 6 months.

I hope the same or better for you. It sounds like you're a focused person and you're doing things the right way (as far as I can tell).

I was also laid off about a month ago, but I just accepted a very comparable new offer of employment, so that didn't last long, thank God!

I have had to start my career over several times during my lifetime. If you have laid a good educational foundation and have shown a good work ethic, and are flexible, you can find something to tide you over while you look for that "good" job. I always found it better to work part-time, or in a minimum wage position while job searching, since it is easier to find a job, when you have a job.

By willingly working at a minimum-wage job, you show your possible future employer, you are willing to work for less pay than your previous "good" job and thus are less likely to leave their company if another good offer comes your way. Plus, it shows you are flexible and resourceful and willing to do what it takes to be successful in the future.

Sometimes it might take a few rough years, but you will eventually find something satisfying.

Plus, with me, being ugly, I could make a lot of money as a male stripper: Women would pay me lots of money to put my clothes back on! :laugh:
