While working on another project, I ran across Mumble, http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Main_Page , which is similar to Teamspeak and Ventrillo. What made me think it might be interesting to Norb (as an advanced feature) was that it can be integrated directly with a game. It can use the 3D positional data of the characters in the game to modifiy the perceived position and strength of their voice in your headset. So... if you wanted full real settings, you could make it so that you had to be in shouting distance of another player to communicate with them. Of course, that level of reality might be annoying, so you can modify the 'shout' distance if you like.
It's Open Source (so license for use in games is free)
It support getting 3D positional data from a game and using that to position the voice in a users headset via a plugin: http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Link

I know the plate is already slammed full with stuff for the first release, but IMO this should definitely be something for the wish list. Great find!
Now that would be AWESOME! I could see it now.. "Brigade Cmdr: Sir, we are being overrun.. Please send support. Div Commander: Come a little closer general, I can barely hear you!"So... if you wanted full real settings, you could make it so that you had to be in shouting distance of another player to communicate with them.

We are using raknet, which has support in it for voip if I were to put the time into try to get it working. But fact is that it isn't anything I would even consider until after release. Reason being that I have to be 100% solid on mp working before I add any features. Right now it's pretty solid, but not where I want it to be.
