Union Flags - Size and Shape?

Post by Jack ONeill »

Hey All,

I sure I'm the last person to notice this. I was playing the umpteenth game of TC2M the other day and it finally hit me - the Union flags aren't square. They are rectangles. Has anyone else noticed this and has there been a discussion about why, perhaps over at the MMG Forum?
With all the amazing historical accuracy of the games, there must be a reason the Union flags aren't square.

Now, don't give me any noise about not knowing what I'm talking about. In my office right now is a 6 foot square replica of the 14th. Indiana Volunteers Regimental color. Next to it is a 6 foot square National Color for the same Regiment.
Both were designed from information gleaned from The Indiana Civil War Historical Society, which has several original colors under glass.
Norb et. al.- you got the Confederate colors right. They are square. What about the Federal colors for Gettysburg?
Just my two cents.

I seem to recall the "standard" Federal flag was 6' by 6'6"...so it was "sort of rectangle."

All the flags in game are basically square. There was little variation but it's not like they got them from Walmart.
Origionally we had some rectangular but these were changed some time ago and maybe this is what you are looking at.

Bedbug,

Very good possibility there. They are "sort of" square, but not as square as the Rebs battle flag. Figured it might be a "sprite" issue or something. Just a weird observation by me. Still love the games.

wellll......
It's sorta take yer choice.
If the hoist is 6' and the fly is 6' 1 1/4" do you call it a rectangle?.....or it just got stretched outta shape? :)

Nope, not necessarily. :P ...but is it a square, either? :silly: Nope, not really!

More importantly, does the game flag accurately represent the original? Yes, it certainly does!!! Again, congratulations to the design team! Job well done!

Just about everyone put their two cents in on the flag issues, but Tim stitched every last one.

by hand! Enough flags to cover the whole of the good ole US of A :P Union flags are now square (to with 1/4 inches) - they weren't before as I wrongly assumed that they would be the shape they are now. Suffice to say there's more than enough grogs on the forum and on the team to quickly put me right.
