Re: R.I.P. John Bonin

Very sad news. He leaves behind his beautiful maps, for us all to enjoy. RIP to a fellow guitarist and an extraordinary designer.

Re: Valve says Linux is more viable for games than Windows 8

<r>I'll second what Flanyboy says, and say Win7 is the best option for you, Reb. Michael and I have turned the other Win8 thread into the "shiny new toy" thread, because we both like our shiny new toys. The truth is, Win7 is tried and true. I've used it for 2 years, and it is very stable. In fact, I...

Re: Windows 8 Discussion

<t>I don't think anyone is getting tired of this topic at all! Sooner or later stuff breaks, and someone on this forum will end up with a computer with Win8 on it. It's good that you're testing it out for us, and showing us how to get around on it.<br/> <br/> I haven't fired up my virtual machine ye...

Re: Windows 8 Discussion

<r>Really considering doing this deal now, Mike. I personally found it a different "user experience", but I could get around on it pretty well. I've been messing with, messing up and fixing messed up software for several friends for a few years, so it wasn't a problem for me. I think the average mom...

Re: Windows 8 Released on Friday...

I tried one of the betas, and I don't dislike it as much as some people will. I'm thinking I'll just stay with 7. Even though I can get a pretty good deal on a sidegrade I'd have to have a pretty good reason, such as better sound performance, or gaming performance to be tempted to switch.

Re: Trans-Mississippi Map Pack

I used to wish for new water on the old maps, but you make an excellent point, Jim. Spend the R&D time on the new releases.

To my Better Half....

<r>I'd like to take a little time to wish a very happy birthday to my longsuffering wife. Without her OK, I wouldn't have this game, or the Pipe Creek and Antietam packs. She has OKed Chancellorsville, too, so I'm sure she is concerned for my continued happiness. She has had to endure numerous canno...

Re: Wanted: Irish Flag Opinions

<r>I realized just after I posted that one unique blemish would look cloned if it appeared on all the flags. I've done a bit of computer graphics work, and I have Paint.net, so I fired it up to see what I could do. Just a bit of desaturation does it for me. The flags look a bit like the stock "neon"...

Re: Wanted: Irish Flag Opinions

I like both #2 and #3. Davinci brings up a good point. The flags need to be more weathered. I think the Rebel flags in DRF look battle worn, but the new Yankee flags look a bit too clean. Hi def smoke, sun-fading and dirt would look awesome, IMO!

If my attention ever drifts, there always is that one special battle, whether in sandbox, or a scenario that just pulls me back in.
