  • I use Chrome and cannot get the attachments box to work. I click on add file, double click the file name and nothing happens.

Anyway I have put the picture up on my personal website www.aguter.plus.com/pix/screen0001.jpg

    Gotta click 'insert' after that.

This looks exactly like what happens when the game is not restarted after checking and activating the mod in Modifications (once leaving Modifications, Resign, then restart the game). Unless there's another issue that cropped up, I don't know beyond that.

  • On my end ( I maybe wrong) the formation button isn't there, where it can be seen. From the picture in this thread I know where to click. If I use the cavalry tab I get the infantry formations. If I use the infantry tab I get the cavalry formations.

  • It's working for me.
I deleted the toolbar folder in Mods, restarted and verified vanilla version worked, then downloaded mod again, restarted, ticked it, resigned and restarted. And the F button brings up the new formations popups.

    Great work, Reb

  • Update, version 3.0...

    -NEW 'Battle Line'
    - 2nd row side steps to fill gap and shoots between 1st row troops
    - It can't move so defaults to column by divisions when moved, eliminating lines moving about once the action begins
    - When engaged, troops cycle through reloading replacing the static look with action
    - The shooting/firing sprite now appears in the advance and withdraw sequences

-Battalion line formations segmented by companies per Nation: British Allies 10, French and Dutch 6, Prussia 4 (all complete segments display with full '200 sprites' unit)

-Column by Divisions adapted as the default movement mode for battalions
    - Closed interval form used by battle lines
    - Full intervals used for assault sequences

-Battalion pop up window with additional formations
    - Additional column by divisions options plus skirmish

    -Windowed formation adjustments and consolidation
    - Prussian formations shown separately are unique to Prussia
    - Most redundancies seen in version 2.0 have been removed

-HOT Buttons added to Infantry and Cavalry Destination Menus: attackmarch, column or column by divisions, run
    - Like stacking commands with the queue, but with one click
    - Identify and mouse over the red attackmarch button for specifics

-Artillery advance 20 and 50 yards included both on Targeting menus and toolbar

By my testing the new battle line and column by divisions infusions have greatly reduced the helter skelter look of the battlefield by eliminating and restricting line movements. Also, I really like the busy engaged line look now, except when they synchronize after a volley :S ...but it goes random pretty fast, thank goodness. :)

Thank you so much for this addition its improved my games no end.

  • NICE lineup of kudos for this mod, much appreciated ALL! :)

In some ways having this in mod form is a plus as I can alter files as I see fit and release at will. However, the downside is that this mod is not high priority for patches, so improvements needed externally (for example, officer unit types set) may materialize slow, if at all. :(

Answering the preferred sprite ratio question, I suggest SR4 for division and below levels and up to SR10 for above, depending on computer performance.

This is a great mod. Saves the game for me, but there may be a glitch in the latest version. In Sandbox, I'm playing Boudin's division in a corps sized line of sight battle and my infantry won't shoot! I've gotten them within point blank range and they don't shoot at infantry. I tried this in a few games and I think they shot at some cav but never at other infantry.

I will experiment some more. Thanks for the great mod.

I do most of my testing in sandbox and I haven't seen that issue, infantry engages infantry just fine by my observations. Now, with the new 'Battle Line' engagement response time is slower as lines switch from line to lineFight. Still, I'll look for this issue.

Thanks for the report, and Welcome :)

Anyone else experiencing infantry not engaging infantry?

  • Yes. Many times, both in SoWGB and SoWWL. I think its a bug in an OOB as we have seen it in many different OOBs. We get infantry who won't shoot or melee. If meleed they don't use the stabbing animations and just stand there to be butchered. It has our KS group scratching our heads as we don't see any logic to when it happens.

HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.

Im apparently an idiot. Used an old version from release of this mod that works fine. When I replaced it with the 3.0 "higher than 1024" download from the first post, the tool bar shows but at 1024 resolution instead of the resolution of the rest of eh screen. What am I doing wrong? had to go back to the old version

  • Update, version 3.1:

-'Line' formation movement defaults to Column by Divisions
'Line' now joins 'LineFight (Battle Line)' as 'Can't Move' and defaults to 'Column by Divisions' when moved. This eliminates all line movements by the AI. Also all player controlled formation movements will transition via column by divisions.

-'Line Forward Hold Form' formation added to infantry battalion Stand Menu
For micromanagement and moving lines around a 'Hold Form' line option is provided on the 'Infantry Stand' Context Menu (new button, upper right corner). It can't fight but will form a Battle Line and defend fairly quickly on it's own. It moves 30 yards instantly under attackmarch, continue the line and it makes a line attack/charge sequence possible.

-Reverted/fixed artillery engagement sequence back to normal
Edited the unitmodel.csv file to just include infantry as 'active loaders'. The redundant cannon loading was a bad call, so switched it back. I did slow down the loading animation a bit, as with the infantry, so it stretches out longer and is not as franic. I think troops learned to pace themselves away from exausting loading speeds anyway, except when persuaded.

-Corps reserves now consist of nation specific subforms
Before, column by four were represented, now it's nation specific forms of column by divisions.

Waffled back and forth on whether to eliminate all AI line movements. Wanted to keep the nice look of orderly battalion lines moving across the fields, but besides being unrealistic, when the AI starts moving them about, it looks like "pickup-sticks" as one observer put it, and I must agree. Lines still overlap at times, but the frequency and duration of crossover situations are greatly reduced with this 3.1 setup...at least by my observations.

  • In the quest for ONE toolbar for all resolutions here is one prototype based on 'grid segments' that failed to launch. Looked promising but when converted to percentages for high resolutions the vertical spaces were wider than the buttons, so definitely a bust.

Anyway, here's what the brigade level infantry at low resolution looks like...

And here's the download for anyone's that interested in trying another look. But be forewarned, I call this the LE_Grid version, because LE - Limited Edition it is, and won't be supported beyond this...

  • You are to be congratulated for your hard work. Your toolbar has probably done more to keep the game alive than anything else. You can get around the problem you mentioned by using several smaller grids side by side instead of a large one. I think 7x3 is the largest you can use. That is how the KS toolbar is constructed. It works at all resolutions.

This is just another example of the inadequacy of MyGui.

I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
