It's a shame that this forum has become so convoluted with other games, events, interests, etc. It's very unfortunate that the forum did not stay with it's birth right, which was Gettysburg, the Civil War, War between the States, or call it what you will.

    Two things here concerning this.

First, ask the developers to remove the other thread topics such as other games area which would reduce the number of topics since it would start become more centered around what you are calling it's birth right.

Second, you should have posted more threads to engage others in thoughtful conversation instead of being a follower, and be more of a leader instead of complaining about something you apparently did not take much interest in yourself.

It's pretty basic really, if you do not want others to post about other games then do not have a other areas listed such as "Other Games".

You could also be more draconian in your approach, and start banning people who do not fit within the parameters of the forum.

Final: Narrow the headers down to what you want people to speak about, otherwise be thankful that people are taking part...Up to you.

The Gettysburg forum looks 100% ACW related to me. Norb's admins quickly get rid of the small amount of spam we get and topics posted in the wrong forums are soon moved to where they should be.

There are other special areas such as historic discussion of ACW and Napoleon's warfare, Off-Topic (anything else), modding (and the game is moddable in many ways so there's an unlimited number of directions discussions can go down there).

Then the new Waterloo game has it's own area.

I'm honestly scratching my head over what the problem is exactly.

If a particular discussion does not interest you, ignore it and when youve read all the threads you have interest in, go to the top and hit "mark all threads as read", then you won't be troubled by new topics in discussions that don't interest you during that login-session.

As a forum member, I have given praise, lot's of praise...As a consumer, I am disappointed that concentration and new product offering has strayed away from ACW to Napoleon, that's all. That's why I asked "why"?

I have the feeling that in two years time the wheel will have turned.

Waterloo fanatics will be complaining bitterly that 'their' pristine napoleonic forum is being adulterated by the hundreds of Civil War Mods that will be reshaping Waterloo into that image, re-creating TC2M and SOWGB content.

Well…..My ‘two cents’, as an Civil War enthusiast I can see the reb’s point of view here, but I look at it from a slightly different point of view.

This is a very solid game that we have here, there are a few thousand more hours of playing time which I’m sure I’ll take advantage of, and then there is always the ‘modding’ aspect that has to be taken into consideration.

It’s not like the NSD team abandoned us and left us without a very good game to play on.

I think that moving towards another market is a very good idea, after all there are a lot of members that love the Napoleon battles, I just don’t happen to be one of them.

But, this isn’t really about Me , it’s about NSD making a solid investment towards what they think is going to appeal to a bigger audience.

I can’t see any logical reason why they shouldn’t at least try to seek a foot hold into that time-period. That particular time-period did involve quite a few countries.

This game sort of reminds me of the last game; it does way more than any ‘modder’ has ever had the ability to take advantage of, and has plenty of life left in it.

I doubt that this game has even been ‘modded’ past the forty-percent-mark , which means that there is still a lot to be discovered.

The only problem here that I see is that it would take a programmer to take advantage of all of the features that the Power-Render-Program has to offer.

There’s really not that many programmers on the forum at the moment!

    But it HASN'T!

The new game engine is going to be even more moddable than the current one, which means we'll get a much better ACW game out of it in no time at all!

It's not like the new game engine is going to be limited to just other Nap period mods.

Norb and the guys have already answered the 'why?' question.

I honestly do not understand your problem, its as though you're thinking that Norb and the team owe you something. They don't.

On the other hand you could even immerse yourself in a new historic period and different nations and suddenly find them very exciting. When I first discovered this game I was a bit of a fan of the ACW but by no means was it my favourite period or continent of military history, but I plunged in and learned a huge amount about ACW strategy, tactics, generals as well as getting to know some good friends along the way.

    Widen your horizons.

Please also remember it's not as if the team has entirely abandoned the Civil War either, the Red River scenarios and maps were posted after the Waterloo announcement and Lynchburg was also released just a short while ago and each of those were mods that involved members of the Scourge of War team. Additionally each were free for anyone who already owns Gettysburg.

There are lots of reasons on reasons for our decision to do Waterloo. But if I had to give the single biggest reason, it's because next year is the 200th Anniversary and lovers of the battle made a very compelling case.

    NSD Programmer/Producer

    For whatever it's worth:

When you get to be my age, you look back over the years on a lot of great games and gaming companies that are no longer around. I for one, enthusiastically support NSD exploring and investing in alternative games and periods, if for no other reason than to keep them employed and able to continue to support SOW. Love you guys!
